Candle filters for industrial mist removal

Candle filters are used to trap, collect, and remove liquids and particles suspended in a gas stream, and can achieve up to 99.5% efficiency depending on particle size. In this way, the process gas stream is free of contamination and in some cases valuable product can be recovered, when the concentration of the product is high.

What is the basic operation of candle filters?

The mist-laden gases pass perpendicular to the candle filter and come out clean on the opposite side. The particles present in the mist are trapped when trying to pass through the fibres of the filter. They clump together in the form of droplets on the surface of the fibres and drain with gravity. The particles are retained by a combination of impaction, interception, and Brownian motion.

What are candle filters for and in what sectors and applications are they found?

We offer a complete line of candle filters to remove sub-micron liquid mist emissions, aerosols, soluble solids, and pre-filtered insoluble solids. Innovative filter designs provide solutions to minimise CAPEX & OPEX cost.

Candle filters are widely used by companies in multiple industrial applications looking to reduce emissions and opacity issues to create a safer, healthier environment that’s more compliant with environmental regulations.

Some of the applications and sectors where candle filters are widely used are:

  • Asphalt production
  • Automotive
  • Electronics & Semiconductors
  • Printed circuit board
  • Fertilisers
  • Metal polishing
  • Pulp and paper
  • Steel Rolling & Lubricant Emissions
  • Machining & Metallurgy
  • Specialised Chemical Processes

Multiple Candle Filter Designs

Sharing the basic technology of the candle filter, we have multiple specific designs for different gas volumes, type of mist and concentration of pollutants:

  • Single Candle Filter
These are compact design and proven mist removal units for small volume gas applications in multiple industries. Each unit is designed with its own features and is tailored for optimal performance that meets the requirements of the application.

  • MMC type candle filter
MMC type filters are compact, multi-stage filters designed to handle medium volumes of gas. The stages of the MMC unit achieve a variety of separation functions to obtain the desired output performance.

  • FIV (Filter-In-Vessel) Candle Filter
The FIV series improves on conventional droplet separator systems to provide the user with practical and effective results. FIV systems incorporate numerous features that can be adapted or modified to provide the desired functionality in a wide range of applications.

  • CMC and LMC type candle filter
CMC and LMC systems are units designed for mist removal in large volumes of gas. The system has many features that reduce both the investment and operating cost. It’s specifically designed to make the most of space and permit quick and easy maintenance.

All candle filters are designed and manufactured by our strategic partner CECO ENVIRONMENTAL.
